I tell every one of my associates, and the young lawyers I mentor, that one of the best ways to learn new trial skills is to judge high school mock trial. I learn something new every year. Sometimes it’s persuasive storytelling techniques, sometimes the effective use of cross examination, sometimes exemplary courtroom demeanor. I know we are treated like rock stars for stepping in and judging. But it’s really the competitors that are the rock stars.
